Nicknames/Aliases: Ananse/Puck (On the net he is known as Puck, and often appears as a young pale skinned boy, but in the Original World he calls himself Ananse. Only revealing his true name to those he has to)
Age:34 (Appears around twenty)
Appearance: The mixed American/Indian heritage in the man has lead to a very unique appearance. Like his mother Akand has long, black hair and dark bronze-like skin. From his father the "middle-aged" man gained more slender and fine features, and cool seaweed green eyes. After many years of technologically enhancing his body the man now looks rather toned, but has small and usually unnoticed grey lines covering much of his body. Another change due to these enhancements is his right pupil has faded to white, and thus giving that eye an eerie halo appearance.
Throughout the man's body there are dozens of fly sized off colored dots. These are from the many nanobot and chemical injections that Akand gave himself in his attempt to increase his lifespan and physique. Another abnormality due to his tampering is that his right arm, and left thigh are a significantly lighter tan than the rest of the man's body. This is because those parts are not part of his body originally. In an experiment Ananse had a accident and as such his original right arm was made useless and the muscles in his left thigh were shredded. The new arm is one that even after a few years the man cannot use as well as the original and thus the observant eye would noticed the muscles in it are slightly smaller and less toned than those of his left.
Like many mythological tricksters Ananse is one that loves theatrics and as such tries to wear the most unusual and interesting clothing available. At the same time due to the lack of shops maintained in the real world he has to make due with whatever remains and what his sowing machine can make suitable for the harsh world. So now the traveler normally wears loose grey silk pants with blue wind patterns flowing up it's length, a white barong tagalog and then a deep blue sash normally crosses his waist. These loose clothes allow the man to move freely and comfortably while still showing off his eccentric attitude.
Sexual Orientation: Presumed heterosexual, though Akand enjoys confusing others and often pretending to flirt with homophobes.

Likes:Akand's unique ability to retain his physical body and access the Net is one of his greatest skills. Beyond that he his a nanotechnician, a biologist, and knows his way around a computer. On the Net the man functions more as a virus than a citizen, he is able to adjust his form and occasionally can access areas and information that no citizen should be able.

Positive Traits:
1. Clever- Akand is a very smart and quick witted man. As such he loves minds games and arguments, for even if he isn't the smartest member of the game he can win if he can confuse the other players. Due to this mentality the man often annoys those that don't understand him, thus fueling his odd mind.
2. Patient-Puck has been alive for many years, and it doesn't look like he'll be aging any time soon. As such the man has developed patience that most do not have the time to cultivate. If he truly desired the thirty four year old could spend years just watching a colony of ants try to survive. It's likely that he could win a staring contest with a tortoise.
3. Easygoing- The nanobot enhanced man is very mellow and is nearly stoic in how calm he is most of the time. Akand's role with the punches type personality makes him sometimes incredibly infuriating because even in the face of tragedy the man is generally unworried and satisfied.
4. Innovative- Whether it be in a fight or in everyday life Akand generally does things his own, very unique way. Due to this in the face of adversity the man rarely ends up easily bested and often finds unorthodox means to solve his problems. The strange trickster is one of the few people likely to consider even a towel a weapon.
5. Logical-Akand's mind is one that works on facts and figures, not emotions like most of humanity. As such he sees things in a much colder viewpoint than most, and is often seen as heartless for his Machiavellian thought process. Yet due to this way of thinking the man is often able to see past his own qualms to deal with whatever problem may arise.
6.Self-Reliant- After many years Akand learned that humans are weak, and selfish beings and thus are not ones to rely on. As such the man makes a practice of not needing anything from any one human and does not often ask for help with anything.
7.Observant- Since the weapon necessary for the Net hopper's survival is information Akand has developed an eye for the obscure. The man notices things like small twinges in people's expressions or even things as small as what someone was wearing down to the very last visible detail.
8. Organized- Due to information being his lifeline Puck is very organized and is able to keep track of most of his possessions as well as any type of information he has found.
Negative Traits:
1. Indecisive- Despite his calm and confident way of acting Akand is incredibly bad at making vital choices. This is mostly because he is a man who wants a future that is completely his to decide, and often when one makes the wrong choice they close many possible futures.
2. Cruel- Puck has absolutely no qualms with ending the life of another human, and is actually prone to doing so if he believes that their death will be more interesting than their life. Though that is not to say that Akand is by any means a sadist, he simply values himself and his goals above others.
3. Self-centered- There is nothing in life that could make Templar sacrifice his life. Akand sees his life as the most valuable thing available and thus does not take much stock in the dreams, pains or needs of others. Oddly the man is very aware of his selfish ways, and yet has absolutely no intention of changing.
4.Whimsical- Ananse often acts very joyful and childish, taking to whatever whim may cross his mind. Which most of the time just results in his annoying behavior, but if one if not careful it will lead them to the dangerous side of Akand.
5. Stubborn- The former scientist doesn't to like to be bent to the will of others and thus is very stubborn and obstinant. He will fight against someone changing him with passoin that Akand does not show in any other part of his life.
6. Dispassionate-There is truly no cause, nor person(other than himself that is) that the half Indian man would be willing to fight for. He simply doesn't care about any issue most of the time and isn't prone to being sympathetic.
7. Cynical- Ananse is prone to see things in the darkest way he can. As such he does not often put much stock in the abilities of others or the worth of a human life.
8.Lonely- ALthough it may not be apparent to the world or even Puck himself, the man is lonely. He longs for a companion with a "kindred spirit". Perhaps this is why he is interested in the girl Eden, for like him she is different from those around her.

History:
Noah Templar was born to a very conservative, Christian family that believed that the path to happiness paralleled the road of religion. Due to the Peter and Mary Templar's extremely devote outlook on life they generally tried to shield their seven children from the outside world so that their beliefs would not be tainted with the impurities of the modern world. So Noah and his many siblings were home schooled, and only real left their family's large property to go to church every Sunday.
This sheltered life was not a bad one. Noah never had too much trouble, and due to his large family the youngster was never without someone to spend the days with. Yet even at a young age Noah was too inquisitive for his family's liking and often questioned their traditions and beliefs. This lend to the boy being punished on more than one occasion, but being punished only furthered the boy's questioning. If his parent's were willing to harm their son over it the secret of religion surely had to be a good one.
After only a few dozen times of asking his parents about god and faith Noah decided to take another path to discovering religion's secrets. When the boy was twelve he began asking to visit the public library so that he would have access to more book's than the Templar family's personal library could offer. Mary who was a teacher welcomed the idea of one of her children enjoying books and often gave the boy a ride to and from the library.
Thanks to his mother Noah was able to begin his personal path of discovery. Like many children Noah had always loved Christianity and welcomed most of it's beliefs, but when the boy began his research many of his views on life began to change. The boy soon learned of the great deal of atrocities that had been done in the name of the one her saw as his savior. The pre-teen was disgusted by what his fellow Christians had done in the past and took to reading the Testaments to learn what had lead so many to violence.
As heartbreaking as it was for the boy he decided to abandon the beliefs of his family after reading much of the Old Testament. The book's portrayal of a violent and jealous god appalled the bright child. How could the same god that had given the world Jesus done such things as have Abraham murder his own child and destroying entire cities? Since Noah had always been a gentle boy he could not understand such deeds, or why people would follow such a god.
This decision to break from Christianity was a difficult one since the religion was the one thing that had always been a part of the youngest Templar's life. Plus his family so adamantly believed that the boy could not possibly reveal to his family this choice. Yet the child confidently broke himself from the religion and boycotted it in secret until his seventeenth year.
On Easter of that year Peter and Mary decided to hold a celebration in honor to their believed savior, and Messiah Jesus Christ. As such the couple invited all those from their church over. Of course Noah knew that handling so many people with so different beliefs than his own would be hard, but believed he would be able to handle it because he had done so for many years now and thus one day shouldn't be too hard.
Sadly he was wrong. Noah had not noticed how far his mindset had drifted from those of his family and "friends" in the years since he had left the Christian faith. Hearing all of those with such conservative, and narrow minded beliefs speak them was incredibly difficult. Many of the women gossiped about those that had "strayed from the path of god" and how they'd just have to pray for them, and the men spoke of how this country was losing it's faith, and how many sinners were to be damned.
This wasn't exactly any different from what they had all spoken about all of Noah's life, but for some odd reason it today each of their close minded words just dug into his skin. Right as he attempted to escape the main body of the crowd the church's pastor decided to make a small speech of his own, and thus the youngest Templar wasn't able to leave lest he be seen as rude.
At first the teen just tried to ignore it and blank out, but then the wizened man said something that irked the boy down to his very core. During this long speech the old man had mentioned a relative of one of the church members that was gay. Afterward he told all of those at the Easter assembly that they should all pray for the man's heathenish soul so that perhaps he will be "spared the rod".
This sent the seventeen year old Noah into a laughing fit, "Wait, you're trying to condemn someone for being gay yet isn't it fairly common for you priest to be caught in homosexual activity with children?" The boy's mock laughter ended here and he broke into a rant, "So many of you speak so high and mighty like you Christians are devoid of flaw, and yet your religion is responsible for more deaths in history than almost any other group. You speak of salvation, yet your god is so bloodied that he should be the one punished!" The boy's seething anger faded as he turned and saw the expression on his father's face.
Peter Templar stood up from his seat slowly, his eyes dark with rage. Despite what Noah expected his father spoke calmly, his voice never once cracking with the fury that surely filled his entire being, "Noah, it seems that you are not as faithful as your namesake like your mother and I had hoped. I'm sorry, we have clearly raised you wrong and in these three month until you turn eighteen we will try our best to correct our mistaken parenting. For today please go to your room so that we do not further disturb our guests."
Despite his father's cool voice Noah found his body trembling. Something within the man's tone carried some danger that the boy just couldn't recognize. So to avoid that possible threat Noah compliantly went to his room, to spend the rest of the day ruing that he had not held his tongue for three more months. Now his parent's had a quarter of a year to punish him for his blasphemous words.
The day after Easter Noah found his passport and a plane ticket on the kitchen table where his breakfast should be. His mother politely explained to the boy, "I've decided that no matter what your father or I do in these three months there is nothing that we could possibly do to convince you to return to Christianity. So when your father went to work this morning I bought you this plane ticket. You'll be staying with some of my family in Germany until you're eighteen. They have assured me that it's OK for you to stay with them and they do not mind that you do not believe in god."
The surprised by almost fell out of his chair from the shock. He had believed that the time waiting for his eighteenth birthday would be horrible, and yet here his mother had provided such a kind salvation. With a melancholy look on her face Mary continued, "The relatives you will be staying with are my cousin Troy and his family. Like you Troy did not fall in line with the family's beliefs, because of that he was treated poorly and has broken ties with much of our family. Because I do not want that for you I want to let you see a world other than the one your father and I built for you, so you can see the miracles that are god's work and the sins that are Satan's. You'll leave tonight before your father gets home, I'll send you five hundred dollars monthly for a year. After that time you'll be on your own to do as you please."
After many tears and a very emotional goodbye Noah left behind the life of a sheltered American child and began the life of a young adult in Germany. Troy was a kind and intelligent man and spent many days talking to Noah, often playing devil's advocate and challenging the boy's view simply to help the boy become open minded. Troy became a large part of who Noah became as an adult and how Noah would raise his future children.
In years to come Noah became a novelist, writing many science ficition books and even some political books. Although he was not widely popular a few of the man's books sold very well in Germany and Austria and thus Noah was able to live a life without too much difficulty and could travel about as he so wanted without worry of money. These many trips that the man took led the man to his wife Virlomi.
Virlomi lived a life very different from Noah. The woman was the fifth child of a poor family in a poverty stricken city in India. As such the girl was learning to "pull her own weight" at a young age and helped her mother work at a textile mill from the age four till her fourteenth year. The work was not too hard for someone as quick a learner as Virlomi and was repetitive enough that she could spend hours just thinking.
Like her future husband young Virlomi was very curious and loved to spend hours questioning everything she heard. Unlike Noah the young Indian did not have the luxury of a warm and loving family and thus these questions were not welcome to the ears of her father. Virlomi's father, Kalum Singt, was a man who had not once been awarded with any semblance of wealth and thus had never been able to be schooled. He had worked most of his life and was a hard worker, but was not very bright.
As such when a little girl was able to ask questions that he could not answer the man found that it was easier to muffle her mind with his fist than to explore the unknown with his intelligent child. So for many years the young Virlomi was to suffer under her father's violent ways because despite the pain she was determined to find the answers to all of her mind's queries. This only worsened the situation and lead the woman to humiliation and misery that she could never truly leave behind.
When the young the young Singt girl turned fourteen Kalum realized something that would help him live a life that was previously closed to him. Virlomi had grown to be very attractive, which was a miracle in the man's eyes since his wife was a toothless crone barely worth the clothes that covered her back. With his daughter's new found beauty the Indian man would be able to live a life wear his muscles would not have to ache every hour of the day with the work he had to do just to barely survive.
So the man began to whore his daughter out. Of course the strong willed young woman resisted, but legally she was basically Kalum's property. Plus if she were to run away there was no way she could survive without any education or money, so she was better off obeying her father's unfair commands. For four years the woman let her body supply her sibling's supper and slowly hid away enough money to escape. When the girl became a woman she fled Kalum's greedy hands.
At first life was difficult, Virlomi did not have enough money to afford any more than the basics and her new job at a textile mill barely did anything to even dent the bills that just seemed to pile up. For a year the woman was able to survive on her own, but her money was nearly out and there was no way that she would possibly be able to continue living without making more money.
So the woman returned to prostitution. This was a hard decision to make since Virlomi had been lucky to not become impregnated or get an STD when she first slept with men for money, going back to that world would only increase her chances of either of those happening. Yet again the woman was lucky. The first man she tried to sell herself to was a smart looking American man. The man constantly refused her advances, but when she would not give up he brought her to his hotel room.
Much to the woman's surprise he did not let her sleep with him, but instead said he'd pay her for an interesting conversation. So the two people from such different lives talked until the light peeked into the shabby hotel room's window. The man having loved the conversation so much made the Indian prostitute an offer. He would give her room and board and an American education but in exchange she would help him write his newest novel.
Of course the woman gratefully agreed, her eyes filled with years worth of tears. For two years the two lived together in Noah's home in America, while Virlomi absorbed every piece of knowledge offered to her. Within those two short years the Indian woman was able to finish all basic American education and was starting to work on a doctorate in biochemistry. Noah was so enthralled with this genius woman that he had so luckily found he asked her to marry him. Virlomi said yes, under the condition that their children would show their Indian heritage in their names. Of course the man agreed.
A short year later the couple had their first child. As per their agreement he was to be given an Indian name. Despite that Virlomi could not decide on a name for the boy for nearly two weeks, then finally she found the perfect name for her beloved baby boy. Akand Rai, because she constantly lost herself withing his calm eyes. Noah found the name fitting. The couple happily brought the new baby home, to their house filled with so much love and way too many books.
Akand followed in his parent's footsteps and was inquisitive very early on in life. The child's mind was sharp, and he quickly began asking questions on just about anything he found. Lucky for the boy he had a very different family than the ones his parents had been born into and his inquisitive mind was welcomed and even praised. By the time the boy turned four he was able to read, and had even been able to take apart and reassemble one of the family's videogame consoles. Since Virlomi and Noah saw the intelligence that their child was gifted with the two started to hire many private tutors so that the boy would be able to excel intellectually and would his mind would not go to waste.
Akand immediately took to these tutors, and began to learn many things that his peers would only study a few years after him. This young mind so hungry for knowledge eagerly left the arms of his parents for the pages of books. Virlomi and Noah felt abandoned, their child wanted nothing to do with them because they were not text books. The innocent child that they had nearly five years back was gone, and now they felt a hole in their hearts. To amend this damage the two decided to have another child. If Akand did not want to be their child right now they would have another.
When the second boy was born Virlomi did not hesitate to name him Nikhil. She was not sure why she named him such, but for some reason the name seemed to fit. Nikhil was not in the least bit like his brother, he was vigorous and so energetic. Even as a babe he started to fret if he was in one place too long. When Nikhil turned three he was a terror in the Templar house, constantly running around and playing with anything he could get his hand's on. Although the boy may not have been the genius his brother was, he was happy and he was vibrant with life.
As the two grew they contrasted more and more. Akand become more and more fitting of his name and grew so calm he was nearly stoic at times, he began skipping grades and was in high school very young, due to being in school with an age group so far from his own the boy grew to be a introvert. Nikhil was the opposite, he cared little for books and just relied on the fact that he was naturally bright to get through school, he was popular with his peers and was an extrovert who was always energetic and doing something.
When Nikhil was ten Akand was starting college, yet despite the age difference people began noticing that even though Nikhil and Akand were as different as yin and yang they too had some similarities. As the two slowly grew into adults this became more and more apparent, Nikhil eventually became a version of his brother that was popular and well liked. This enraged Akand, watching his brother was like watching what he could have become because the two looked so much a like.
Green with envy Akand threw himself in his work and the Net. Online the young adult had unknowingly become everything that was Nikhil. He was outgoing, energetic and friendly. On the net he met the woman that would become his fiance. Jade Liang. The woman was one of the few who could keep up with Akand's quick mind, and even beat him. Plus she was beautiful and charming. The only problem was that she was attracted to the the pseudo personality Akand had created while imitating his brother.
The young man in love feared that this new love of his would not accept the cold introvert that he really was. Yet still he met her in real life, Jade was exactly the same person on the Net as she was in person. It amazed him, but was much more miraculous was that when he was around her he become that Nikhil like personality he flaunted on Net. Soon the two moved in together and began working together on Akand's personal project.
In their work Akand was slowly developing some nanotechnology that was very similar to what the government was making. The only major difference was that he was making his nanobots so that he would be able to make humans be able to live longer and have their bodies be stronger all the while being able to access the Net on a higher level. So with those nanobots nearly every aspect of what humans accepted as part of life would be improved.
Finally the man was able to nearly perfect his nanotech when he was close to twenty. Sadly he was never able to make his work public because as that happened the world governments decided that the safest thing for the world was for everyone to be uploaded permanently onto the Net. Now even though Akand loved the Net and the freedom it had given him he also saw that to abandon their bodies was to welcome the end of humanity.
So to avoid the Upload the half Indian boy inserted himself with millions of his own microscopic nanobots. With these he would be able to resist most who came to try and force him to upload, and he would be able to access the Net without being caught because with his nanobots the frequency that he would access the Net would be different from regular citizens and thus harder to track. Now Akand would be able to access both worlds. Jade followed her love in this inbetween path, her eyes clouded with her feelings for him.
This life where they neither sided with the Net or the Resistance was difficult. There was no safe place to stay, and it was difficult to find food because the two would either have to find a place the Resistance hadn't already gotten or one that was not guarded by the ever deadly Sentinels. Locations like that were few and far between. So much of the time it was a firefight just to get dinner each night.
To make matters worse Jade's body did not work as well with the nanobots as well as Akand's had. She was barely able to access the Net, and whenever she did it was hard for her to interact with it. In real life the nanobots were using up much of her body's resources to keep reproducing, thus making the woman sickly most of the time. Still she rarely complained because she was with her beloved.
Then things changed. Akand could not stand watching Jade slowly die because of his work and constantly was building new nanobot models, and different improvements to the human body and mind so that perhaps he would be able to let her live like him. Of course since only those two were together Akand had no test subjects and so for each of his test he used his own body. For the sake of the only woman he'd ever loved the man began to depart from what defines human, and became a species all his own.
After five years Jade could not tolerate the life that she and Akand lead. It involved too much pain watching him destroy his humanity for her, so Jade surrendered to the Sentinels, asking only that they allow her to be uploaded permanently. So Akand was left alone in a harsh world. Fury was all the man knew for years, the feeling of betrayal from the only one he'd ever trusted tore at the man's soul.
Finally Akand learned how to survive. His body was superior to almost any human, so he could easily spy on members of the Resistance without fear of being caught or killed. Since he could also access the Net on a unique level the man could spy on the government from there. Through blackmail, and selling of this information Akand would survive and make a comfortable life for himself. So this was the birth of Puck and Ananse.
Online Puck was the mischievous young sprite of a boy that could walk through walls and shapeshift. Many rumors claimed that he was a ghost in the machine, basically a virus created by an unstable mind. In real life Ananse was an immortal trickster who's body could not be human, for it could survive any attack and could not be caught by any means. The Sentinels and Resistance came to accept this mysterious man as a part of the new balance.
In reality the Akand of the past was working toward a goal that would end the balance that he had become part of. After fourteen years of the war between Net and Resistance the man is closer to his goal now than he'd ever imagined. If all went as planned he would be able to rule over both worlds.
Abilities and setbacks of nanobots:
Since the nanobots flowing through Akand's body are extremely unique and plentiful they have many abilities that they grant him but also many flaws. With these nanobots Akand's reflexes, strength, speed and perception are are heightened along with his regenerative abilities. Yet at the same time the man must eat a diet extremely high in iron, electrolytes and sodium to keep the nanobots functioning and reproducing. Whenever he regenerates a large amount of his body the man must consume a great deal of food to be able to refuel all of his body's resources that were used. A much larger setback is that extremely high powered magnets will make Ananse pass out if he goes near them because they make his nanobot reboot. Also if the man goes through too much strenuous activity in too short a period of time his entire body will cease to move for an entire minute while the nanobots recharge. Also, whenever Puck gets a headache all of his boosted abilities will slow considerably because his brain is what runs all the nanobots. The biggest setback is that to access the Net the man's body will go into a comatose state, leaving him susceptible to any attack.
